In the fall of 2025, AdviseVA published a strategic plan to guide our efforts through 2028. The following strategic priorities emerged from a year-long planning process led by AdviseVA leadership and shaped by input from key stakeholders.
1. Adapt Advising Services to Meet the Needs of Today’s Students
As the higher education landscape changes rapidly, now is the time for AdviseVA to broaden its scope of services. Though evidence shows that receiving a bachelor’s degree is one of the most effective ways for an individual to increase their lifetime earnings potential, we recognize that there are many promising education and training options that lead to upward economic mobility. AdviseVA will train advisers to support students with accessing various kinds of high-quality credentials, employment, and service programs that lead to financial stability and increased life satisfaction. As a result, advisers will connect each of their students to the postsecondary pathway that is right for them.
2. Bolster and Retain Exceptional Talent in Virginia
Virginia offers a wealth of resources and robust infrastructure to support the attraction and retention of exceptional talent. For two decades, AdviseVA has leveraged this rich education and training landscape to advance postsecondary educational attainment and lifelong learning for Virginians. By continuing to promote education and training opportunities designed to enrich Virginia’s communities, AdviseVA will lead the way in connecting Virginians, both students and the AdviseVA team, with pathways that lead to fulfilling employment within the Commonwealth.
3. Strengthen Financial Sustainability and Strategic Fundraising
A diversified funding portfolio enables organizations to avoid reliance on a single source, reduces vulnerability to funding shifts, and allows for a wider range of donor involvement. AdviseVA has historically sought funding support from multiple sources, including federal/state support, community organizations, contributions from school partners, and individual donor support; now is the time to leverage more of the opportunities available. AdviseVA will further diversify revenue streams by developing annual and multi-year fundraising goals, targeted research and outreach, and adapting to changes in federal and state funding availability.
4. Galvanize the Growing AdviseVA Community
AdviseVA’s network of supporters is one of its most valuable resources. Increasing engagement with adviser alumni, school partners, state government officials, and friends of the program across the Commonwealth is essential to the program’s longevity. In order to increase awareness of programming and impact, AdviseVA will develop engaging digital content, grow its social media and newsletter following, and host energizing events for stakeholders.
