How did the Amherst County High School's partnership with AdviseVA begin? Or, what was your first impression of AdviseVA/the advisers at ACHS?
When I became principal at Amherst County High School in July 2022, our partnership with AdviseVA had completed the first year. My first impression of AdviseVA and the adviser we had at the time was that this was an amazing program with an amazing person in our building. I saw the opportunity to do so much for our students and after speaking with our counselors at ACHS, I knew that the sky was the limit for this partnership.
What about AdviseVA’s efforts resonates with you?
AdviseVA has given so many of our students the chance to see various opportunities that they otherwise would have never seen. Our AdviseVA advisers over the last four years have provided students with chances to go visit college campuses, on-campus opportunities to speak with many different representatives, and more. This program has been a huge addition for our students.
What has been your favorite or most memorable experience working with AdviseVA?
My favorite experience with AdviseVA is our end of the year event for seniors and our Decision Day. This is the culmination of all of the efforts that our students have made to get to graduate while also allowing them the chance to let everyone know where they will be attending college. Kasey, and Abby before her, have both done an exceptional job of celebrating our seniors throughout the year, but especially at this end of the year event.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your partnership with AdviseVA?
We are so fortunate to have this partnership and have been blessed with two amazing advisers over the last four years. Our students benefit greatly from having them in our building. I appreciate everything that AdviseVA and our advisers have done for our students!
